Keukenhof Flower Gardens, once a modest little herb garden, is now where the Dutch bulb growing industry stage their annual petal spectacular attracting thousands of visitors from all over the world. Each year between March and May, seven million bulbs planted across 70 acres burst into bloom. Not just tulips, but daffodils, hyacinths, narcissi, and crocuses too!  We have also included a fantastic day excursion featuring a cruise from Enkhuizen to Medemblik on the museum ship Friesland and a steam train journey through the picturesque Dutch countryside.

FridayLocal departure by luxury coach to Eurotunnel, once in France travel on to Holland for a three night stay with dinner and breakfast included.

SaturdayThe day starts with a spectacular drive across Houtribdijk, a 17 mile dike built between 1963 and 1975, on the west side of the dike is the Markermeer and on the east is the IJsselmeer. Watch out for the radio station half way. Arriving in Enkhuizen we board the museum ship Friesland for a cruise to Medemblik. On arrival in Medemblik we have free time before boarding the steam train to Hoorn.  Wooden carriages creak, wheels sing and steam hisses as you travel through the lovely Dutch countryside. During the spring time the Bulbfields should be in full bloom.

Sunday: Another highlight of the tour today as we visit the breathtaking Keukenhof Park and Gardens.  Over 50 years of displaying its floral art, the exuberant colours of spring blend beautifully in a landscape of established trees, flowering shrubs, water gardens and fountains.

The history of Keukenhof, the name of meaning “kitchen garden”, goes back to the 15th century. Countess Jacqueline of Bavaria, Jacoba van Beieren (1401-1436) gathered fruit and vegetables from the woods and dunes for the kitchen of Teylingen Castle. Keukenhof Castle was built in 1641, and the estate grew to an area of over 200 hectares.
